So I started watching the Vampire Diaries online back in I think June and pretty much raced through the entire first season within two weeks. Needless to say I loved it. I was very reluctant to pick up the books because I was afraid it would totally ruin the series for me. Yet I was curious to what would differ from the series.  I took a leap of faith and ordered volume 1 (the awakening & the struggle) + volume 2 (the fury & the reunion) of the Vampire Diaries written by L.J. Smith and I can’t say I’m unsatisfied. Yes, there are a few things, even though they may be minor, that are different from the series. Because I watched the series first, I was so used to seeing Elena as a brunette, yet in the books Elena is described as this goddess with golden blond hair. Also, while in the series Stefan already knew about how Elena looked like Katherine, in the books he only finds out this when he sees her on his first day of school, having no knowledge of her very existence prior to spotting her at their school. Another different thing is that in the series Elena’s hometown is called Mystical Falls – in the book it is called Fell’s Church. The list goes on, but I do recommend people who have only watched the series to read the books and vice versa. I’m only starting to sink my teeth into the second book of volume 1 and am very stoked! (:

Yours truthfully,

Loes
